Thanks to Product Gym, I managed to land two product manager job offers as an nternational MBA graduate.
The first challenge was how you brand yourself. You can be an international professional, but you’re still new to the U.S. market, and it could be difficult to sell yourself to employers in the U.S. For example, when creating your resume or LinkedIn profile, employers here don’t really care about how many companies you worked for. You have to be able to articulate the impact that you’ve made. Everything is metrics based and companies wants to see that impact.
I’ll say roughly about 10 a week. When I joined Product Gym, in the first month, it wasn’t up to 10. I joined in August 2020 and in September, I was averaging around five to six a week. When I really started improving my interviewing skills and getting into the later rounds, I started getting more interview requests. At the peak of everything, I was getting around 10 to 12 interviews per week.
Come with an open mind. Try to be a sponge and soak in the information from the coaches, mentors and instructors; they are really there to help you. Ask a lot of questions early on and get yourself going. Overall, do the work. If you have to take a break, then take a break. I actually took a six week break because I was just burning myself out with the interviews and I wasn’t really doing well with them, so I needed some fresh air. Your health is the most important thing , so make sure to pay attention to it. You might get a job and your health can suffer later on, so listen to your body. Learn from each of your interviews to see what you can improve on before moving onto the next, and just take it day by day. You will see the results over time.
